In the Works

Tue Sep 29, 2009, 10:23 AM
Started working on a clone of the Carnelian Necklace, this time in garnet. I have five cabochons wrapped, and just realized that I either need to modify the design, or get two more cabochons because the original had 7. Oooops. Those are not cheap cabochons... but I guess I'll get the center part done for now. Need to bug :iconkailara: to see how she wants me to do this. It's her necklace, after all.

Still need to figure out the dolphin inlay, still need to finish that stainless belt, still need to make a tinyring ring, hopefully in time for Christmas presents... Still need to wrap some dice that I've had forever. My followthrough is not so good.

Con Accomplished

Sun Jul 12, 2009, 10:33 AM
So, I managed to make well over $150 while at PolyCon. Sold a $40 chainmail ring in 22ga tiny rings, sold a few pendants (though not the ones I was expecting...) and put a few items in the auction. Ice Dragon from my gallery sold for $62 (!!!) but as a donation to the con for its continued existence, and my Carnelian Necklace sold for barely enough to cover my materials cost (-_-) Someone is now in possession of a $120 necklace that they bought for a third of that. Ah well. I also sold my oops dicebag, but come to think of it, I never got pictures of that one posted. Such is life.

Next, I need to finish the chainmail belt commission I'm working on, and figure out a dolphin inlay (or find a pattern somewhere) for another dicebag. And after that, I get to somehow figure out how to make a Bumblebee (from Transformers) inspired dicebag. That one will be.... interesting. And by that I mean almost impossible.

Progress! This is weird...

Sun Jun 28, 2009, 10:38 PM
So I have tons of little chainmail pendants to sell at PolyCon ( [link] ) in about a week. I've also worked on the bronze chainmail halter top I've had in the works for over 2 years now (that thing is going to be HEAVY) and I did a commissioned piece for a friend's birthday. Being unemployed is definitely good for my chainmailling hobby, it's just a shame I really do need an income if I want to keep on paying rent, and ya know, eating and stuff. All this progress has even made me a little happier with my overall skill level in this stuff. Now I just need to tackle the wire wrap on that geode slice my mom wants done. Bleh, wrapping irregularly shaped objects.

Before the con, I'd really like to have a few more tiles wrapped, finish the open round chain bracelet I'm halfway through, and make a few more steel bracelets. And if possible, I'd like to finish the chainmail ring I'm working on in tiny rings. Seriously, 22ga 5/64" rings are itsy bitsy. But the weave they make... *drools* It's like cloth. Gorgeous sterling silver cloth.

zero progress...

So the belt is about 1/4 of the way done, now that I have pliers with real teeth to them to safely work with 18ga stainless steel.

I've also very nearly finished a piece for auction at a breast cancer event. Just need to epoxy the stone in place, replace some of the wire with sterling silver (but I need 24ga cause my beads don't fit over the 22), and get pictures of it that do it justice. It combines wire work and a chainmail cabochon wrap into a heart centerpiece amidst silver chain, amethyst and rose quartz.

Despite this, I feel like I've made no jewelry/chainmail progress at all recently. It's been over a month and all I've got to show for myself is 1/4 of a belt and a necklace.
